Skunk!

August 30th, 2008

Mya headed out to the city fleamarket with her parents today, which was not all that interesting. But while they were heading to the car, they realized there was a Reptile and Exotic Animals show right in front of them. So they all went to the show, met a friendly clown and saw lots of reptiles and snakes. Mya got to pet a bunch of animals, such as a skunk, a fox, a bearded dragon and saw other animals such as an alligator, a caiman and a camel.

Carolina Beach.

August 29th, 2008

The family headed out to Carolina Beach to enjoy the day together for Kristin’s birthday. Although Mya enjoys the bathtub and pool, she was not too excited about the waves hitting her feet. Mya spent the majority of her time practicing her sitting in her windbreaker. After an exhausting day, they all headed out for a late dinner.

Kitties!

August 26th, 2008

Today Mya and Kristin picked up the newest additions to the family- 2 kittens. Milo and Bailey are a male/female sibling couple that were adopted from an animal rescue. The two are approximately 6 months old, so when asked to pick a date in March to label as their birthday, it was easiest to pick March 6th. The celebration will now include 3 members of the house.

Lazy Daze.

August 23rd, 2008

After spending the week with Grandma and Grandpa Gonzalez and a few days with Great Aunt Barbara, she headed out to North Carolina’s Lazy Daze 2008. The annual arts and crafts festival initially turned out to be a great day, but the heat exhausted Mya quite a bit.

Later, the family headed over to an art exhibit from England and had a late night out in downtown Raleigh.

Today was also the introduction of acorn squash, which was accepted welcomingly.

Swimming Day.

August 20th, 2008

Today Mya enjoyed the pool with Grandma and Grandpa Gonzalez. She showed them her kicking and splashing abilities that she loves to do while swimming.

Later, at dinner, Mya showed everyone that she had figured out how a straw works.

Missing the Cat.

August 17th, 2008

Mya had a long weekend. She began Saturday morning with her new vegetable of the week, sweet potatoes, which went very well. Then she headed over to Lake Lynn with Scott and Kristin for a nice long walk. They saw all sorts of animals: ducks, geese, dragonflies, deer, turtles, egrets, fish and lizards. She particularly enjoyed the ducks which were so huge that they looked like turkeys. It became quite apparent that they get fed quite often, after they ran right up to Mya and then followed her around for a while. The ducks probably thought Mya looked pretty tasty, considering a lot of them were actually bigger than her.

Later that night, Mya was awoken from her sleep as her parents rushed the 17-year old family cat to the animal hospital. Mew Bear had suffered a seizure at the house and things were not looking good, so Mya said her goodbyes. Initially Mya was quite fussy from being awoken from her sleep, but when she saw her mom and dad crying, she got quiet and continued to look back and forth at her parents as if she were trying to figure out what was going. on. Mew Bear will be greatly missed; even Mya would reach out for Mew and pet her when the cat was around.

Green Beans.

August 9th, 2008

Cereal is a thing of the past and now Mya has moved onto green beans. Since her mom is mashing up fresh vegetables for her, the green beans were a little lumpy, but she enjoyed them none the less. Surprisingly, she did not make much of a face when she was introduced to the green beans. The sippy cup has also been introduced, which Mya likes to hold.

Mini Golf.

August 8th, 2008

Mya headed out to a game of mini golf with her mom and dad tonight. Even though Mya was being carried by her mom, Kristin still managed to get 2 hole-in-ones. Scott told Mya she was helping her mommy by giving her tips on how to cheat.

Sitting Up.

August 4th, 2008

Mya is really starting to sit up nowadays. Recently, she had been able to sit for a few seconds before tumbling over, but can now sit up, unassisted, for a minute or two.
