Christmas #1

December 17th, 2008

Since the family is traveling for the holidays, Mya celebrated her first Christmas at home with her parents. She received the Fisher-Price Go Baby Go Crawl and Cruise Musical Jungle. It took her almost a half hour to get the wrapping paper off of the box and then had to wait another half hour for the toy to be put together. She seemed to enjoy her new toy, particularly the music, which she danced to by rocking back and forth.

First Craft Project.

December 14th, 2008

Today Mya completed her first craft project, with the help of mom and dad. They were using tempera paint to get a bunch of handprints from Mya. Although Mya did not appreciate having to hold her hand still, she did like getting her hand painted. Unfortunately, quite a bit of paint ended up on her body, which mom and dad carefully planned by stripping her down first. Some of the paint even ended up in Mya’s tongue, leading to an idea by Scott that he should try the paint also to see if eating it was worthwhile. Needless to say, Scott did not see what Mya enjoyed about eating paint.

A Visit With Santa.

December 14th, 2008

Mya had her first visit with Santa Claus today. She waited in line for over an hour, but seemed to be studying him when she finally got a chance to sit on his lap. After a few minutes, she had had enough and was crying to get off his lap.

Handprints.

December 12th, 2008

Scott and Kristin worked with Mya to get her handprint for an ornament. It took quite a few tries, since Mya kept digging her fingers into the dough. Later, she was playing with the remaining dough and standing on her own. She stood for approximately 15-20 seconds and gave a few opportunities to take a video. Although Mya is beginning to stand and cruises furniture all the time, she no longer likes to walk with assistance. Now she can also take a few steps to another piece of furniture without holding on.

Baking Cookies.

December 11th, 2008

Today Mya helped her mom make cookies. She played with some of the ingredients and then her mom broke the rules and let Mya eat a cookie, which Mya gobbled down with a huge grin.

New Car.

December 8th, 2008

Today was Mya’s 9-month check-up. The Dr. (which was not Mya’s regular Dr.) said she was on the small size and she needed to gain some weight, although this is not uncommon for breastfed babies.

Length: 26 1/4 in. (15th percentile)

Weight: 15 lbs. 6.5 oz. (4th percentile)

Head circumference: 16 2/3 in. (9th percentile)

Mya went shopping afterwards to pick up Daddy’s new car. While she waited, she picked out a potential first car for herself, although she is not tall enough yet to see above the door.

Decorating the Tree.

December 7th, 2008

Today Mya helped decorate the Christmas tree and posed for some Christmas pictures. Mya is really starting to imitate what she sees. While decorating the tree, she would hold an ornament to a branch on the tree as if she was trying to put the ornament up.

Aunt Erin–> Mya is playing with your Christmas gifts.

Mya enjoyed dinner with the family before heading out to a long night of roller derby. Mya passed out on Daddy’s shoulder during the second game, but woke up right before it was time to go home.

First Christmas Tree and Cuban Dinner.

December 6th, 2008

Mya headed out to the local tree farm, where she started the tradition of cutting down the family Christmas tree with her parents. Mya posed next to a baby tree and then wondered what Daddy was doing with the saw as he cut down the tree.

As the family headed home and just blocks from the house, the car died. This gave the family about two hours to get the tree home while they waited for the tow truck.

Mya then went out for her first Cuban meal. This seemed only appropriate, considering Mya is 1/8 Cuban herself. She ate some delicious chicken that Daddy raved over. Add some bread, rice and plantains, and Mya really ate well at dinner.

Guess who is 9-months old today!

Helping Mommy Do Dishes.

December 5th, 2008

Mya followed her mom around while she cleaned the house today until Kristin finally let her help with the dishes. Mya showed her mom the correct way to play with the soap bubbles.

Stir-Fry.

December 4th, 2008

Mya went to see Cotton the Clown today with Luke. The two later took their mommy’s out for some lunch. When Mya got home, she helped her mom cook her first stir-fry dinner. Mya enjoyed helping by throwing the vegetables onto the floor. She did really enjoy the thai noodles, broccoli and peppers.
